Frank Fitzsimons was born in Antrim but grew up in Bangor, Co Down in the 1930’s and is essentially a self-taught artist. Fitzsimons joined the Belfast Art Club where he painted with Maurice Canning Wilks. Since then his style and approach has been influenced by Charles McAuley and Frank McKelvey. To earn a living, Frank taught for a number of years before he began to show his work in a number of galleries. These galleries included The Magee Gallery, Ormeau Road and the Arches Gallery on the Newtownards Road.
