Star Lot: An amazing 17th century Russian tempera on oak panel painting. Titled 'The Mother of God' to front in old Russian. Letter dated 1877 pinned to verso discusses the painting and quotes, 'Only the more wealthy would have as nice a picture as this' and 'Household Gods' referring to private houses that would have had their own churches and deities within.
