Star Lot: A truly magnificent Edwardian mahogany mantel clock made by the renowned clock maker Samuel Marti. This clock features fine inlay, brass hardware, enameled dial and roman numerals as well as the makers stamp and date inside the clock, "Medaille D'Or Samuel Marti Paris 1900' meaning 'Gold Medal'. Marti in Paris, in the second half of the 1800s, established his business in 1841 in Montbéliard, northeast France that was the birthplace of many of the most prestigious clockmakers. Marti exhibited his clocks regularly at expositions in Paris, where he won a Mention of Honour in 1839, a Bronze Medal in 1860, a Silver Medal in 1889, and several Gold Medals (1841, 1851, 1852, 1900). Marti's clocks begin at €2,580 and can go as high as €18,840 on 1st.dibs.com. There is a crack at the back of the clock but this does not take away from its beauty.
