Star Lot: A very fine 19th century antique oil on canvas painting after George Armfield (British, b.1808–d.1893) titled 'On the Lookout'. Features two keen terrier dogs inspecting a burrow. Rendered in detailed brushstrokes with lovely achievement of expression to dogs faces. Unsigned. Housed in an elaborate molded gilt frame with title and George Armfield printed sticker to verso.
George Armfield was a British genre artist specialising in oil paintings of domesticated dogs. Armfeld professed a great love of animals, and his commissions of hounds and horses were in high demand in his lifetime.
