Star Lot: The most spectacular antique upright piano made by Eduard Sponnagel. Constructed in fine maplewood, this piano boasts spectacular detail with elaborate foliate and scroll carving throughout and particularly attractive acanthus leaf and organic form legs held on bun feet. Delicate carved roses flank the keyboard, which is set with bone keys, all in good working condition. Etching to interior reads "Egalisator G.M.R.No. 78499." Inscribed serial number to right side of lid reads "AS 3632." Fitted with locking mechanisms and accompanied by associated key. A truly breathtaking piece.

Eduard Sponnagel (b.1847 - d.1907) was a piano master. In 1875 he settled in Legnica, where he became a co-owner of the Gustav Selinke piano factory, founded in 1866. In 1889 Selinke left the company, Sponnagel continued to run the company itself under the former name Selinke & Sponnagel, around 1 July 1894 changed its name to Eduard Sponnagel. The company was still located at Neue Glogauer Strasse 16, 16a, 17, producing pianos and piano mechanisms with over a hundred employees.
