Star Lot : A fantastic original hand stitched artwork titled "Skinny Dippers" by the artist Aileen Johnston and dating to 2004. Features a highly saturated scene of two figures bathing in the sea rendered in tones of blues, greens, purples and reds. Hand signed, titled and dated to verso. Stitched signature bottom right and housed in a high quality wooden frame. Johnston is a very popular Irish embroidery artist who's work sells well in the primary market, similar examples are priced at €300.
Aileen Johnston graduated from NCAD where she specialised in embroidery. Since then she has worked as a textile artist, illustrating children’s books and exhibiting regularly. Her work is held in private collections in Europe and America. In 2007 she won the overall RDS Award of Excellence and California Gold Medal for her embroidered Book of Hours. Aileen lives and works in County Wicklow.
