An original Winton Aldridge (British, b.1906 - d.1997) watercolour on paper painting featuring a landscape scene of an English street with Tudor buildings and passersby. Particularly attention paid to architectural detail, owing to the artist's profession as a trained architect. Signed bottom right and dated to 1983. Housed in a smart gilt frame with artist's sticker to verso. Aldridge has a good auction history with works fetching into the early hundreds.
MM: 54 x 44 cm including frame.
Rowland De Winton Aldridge was a British architect, architectural historian and artist. He was born in Kent and named in honour of his great grandmother, Catherine Rebecca de Winton, a member of the Parry de Winton engineering family. Aldridge was a protegee of Edward Wesson, one of the most "outstanding" watercolour artists of the 20th century. During the mid-20th century, Aldrige was a prolific artist of landscapes, seascapes and urban riverscapes.
