Star Lot: A magical original Olaf Viggo Peter Langer (German, b.1860 - d.1942) oil on canvas painting featuring a rural dirt road lined with neat little homesteads with lush blossoming gardens. Wonderfully observed with excellent achievement of natural light and shade. Rendered in an impressionist style in a rich palette. Signed and dated bottom right and housed in an elaborate heavy gilt frame. Further artist information to verso. Langer is a well renowned artist internationally, with works fetching into the early thousands at reputable auctioneers.

Langer was born on December 11th 1860 in Leipzig, Germany. After becoming a journey painter he was admitted to The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen, Denmark) in 1877 after studying under W. Kyhn and Sigurd Konstantin-Hansen. After graduating in 1886, he made study tours to Italy (1886), Paris (1893), The Balkans (1920), Sweden (1920) and several other places, and received the Raben-Levetzau scholarship in 1894. Langer, among others, exhibited at The Charlottenborg Exhibitions (Copenhagen, Denmark) in 1882-1943, The Nordic Exhibitions (1883) and The Artists Fall Exhibitions (1907-1909). Viggo Langer was mainly a landscape painter but in his later years he was especially devoted to motifs from the famous Danish park Dyrehaven (The Royal Deer Garden) north of Copenhagen. His art has become increasingly popular over the past few years and highly collectable.
