Star Lot: Oliver Clare (British, b.1853 - d.1927) A fine original Oliver Clarke oil on board painting. Features a still life of harvest fruits in Clare's typical fine stippled brushstrokes. Lovely achievement of light in this piece. Signed lower right with fine arts dealer sticker to verso and original purchase price of £3,500 in 1988. Housed in an elaborate molded gilt frame. Born in 1853, Oliver was the son of the renowned still life artist George Clare and his wife Lizzie, formerly Elizabeth Bowen. The Clare family members, George, Oliver and Vincent were Victorian artists who specialised in, and were well known for, their highly finished and precisely detailed still life fruit and flower paintings. Oliver spent most of his artistic life in Birmingham.
