A super Kieron 'Spud' Murphy (Irish photographer) limited edition (322/750) high quality print of his iconic John Lennon portrait. Hand signed and numbered in pencil to base and housed in a simple black frame behind glass.
MM: 46cm x 57cm including frame.
Kieron 'Spud' Murphy became interested in photography whilst at University College, Dublin. By coincidence, he also knew Dublin’s leading photographer, Tony Higgins, and after graduating in 1967 was offered a job by Higgins as his assistant. In early 1971 Kieron moved to London and, within just a few weeks of arriving, B.P. Fallon (whom Kieron knew from Dublin) recommended him for a job as the house photographer at 'Sounds', the well-respected music paper. Fallon was publicist for EG Management, handling Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson and T. Rex. One of Kieron's first assignments for 'Sounds' was to photograph one of his all-time heroes, John Lennon. (Many years later one of the photographs from these sessions was chosen as the cover shot for the 1998 'Lennon Legend' compilation release.) Kieron was privileged to sit in on a recording session for what was to become the 'Imagine' album and some weeks later was invited again to Tittenhurst to hear the finished product. After spending a few hours walking and talking with John in the gardens, Kieron was left alone in the famous white sitting room to hear the album. He recalls that John was nervous about unveiling his new work and that he was the first member of the public, so to speak, to hear it
