Star Lot: József Lakatos (Hungarian school, b.1938). An original József Lakatos oil on board painting. Features a dark forested landscape with dramatic use of sgraffito mark making. Signed lower left. Housed in a molded gilt frame. Lakatos' work has a rich auction history with works fetching €300 at Kieselback Gallery and Auction House.

József Lakatos studied at the teacher training college in Eger. He went on study trips to Uzbekistan, Yugoslavia and France. He was a drawing teacher in Mosonmagyaróvár, then in Győr from 1960. It was then that he began to engage in fine art. He has lived in Nyíregyháza since 1972. He worked at the artists' colonies in Sopron, Balatonfüred, Tokaj, Hajdúböszörmény and Nyíregyháza-Sósto. In addition to national exhibitions, he has also presented his works abroad. His works can be found in Hungarian public collections, including the Hungarian National Gallery.
