Star Lot: A very fine 19th century antique oil on board painting after George Armfield (British, b.1808–d.1893). Features two keen terrier dogs inspecting a burrow. Rendered in detailed brushstrokes with lovely achievement of expression to dogs faces. Signed indistinctly bottom right and housed in an elaborate molded gilt frame behind glass with antique London framer's sticker to verso.
George Armfield was a British genre artist specialising in oil paintings of domesticated dogs. Armfeld professed a great love of animals, and his commissions of hounds and horses were in high demand in his lifetime.
