Louise Donnelly is a recent Honours graduate of Fine Art painting and Visual Culture from the National College of Art and Design and a Masters candidate of Cultural Policy and Arts Management at University College Dublin. Her figurative work focuses on theories of the psychoanalytic gaze in portraiture. The gaze occurs when a viewer places themselves within an image in order to understand it. By creating their own narrative the viewer is presented with their own unconscious expectations of what they assume is happening in an image and thus the viewer becomes the narrator of the painting.
