Mary Pickering is a well known artist with works fetching into the high hundreds.
Mary Pickering was born in Dublin, Ireland. She has painted for the past thirty years mastering many media before progressing to her current favourite, silk and acrylic.
Mary is self-taught and has developed her own unique style of silk painting, with its free flowing and vivid colours. This has allowed Mary to express movement in a way not possible in her earlier work. Her technique and style is highly personal and difficult to describe, sometimes resembling batik and sometimes looking like stained glass. She uses the natural sheen of the surface of the silk to highlight the sense of shimmering movement which is a hallmark of many of her pictures. Her paintings are usually busy, crowded with people and full of swirling breezes. The blend of traditional subject, modern, vibrant colours and a silk and acrylic medium has made Mary's work much commented upon and sought after. She has exhibited in various venues around Ireland and has paintings in most parts of Europe, America and Asia.
