Star Lot: James Bingham (1925–2009) A wonderful original James Bingham (1925–2009) oil on board painting titled 'Sunset Donegal'. Features the titular Irish landscape in his dynamic and expressive style. Rendered in vivid colors and bold brushstrokes portraying and a sense of movement that captures the energy and rhythm of the scene. Signed bottom right. Titled to verso. James Bingham is a well known artist with works fetching into the high hundreds at Whyte's.

Born in Belfast in 1925 James Bingham spent his early decades in London working as a signwriter with his brother. In 1967 on his return home he met fellow Belfast artist Daniel O'Neill. They became friends and from 1968 he worked with O'Neill in his studio until O'Neill's death in 1974. His works are vibrant and feature elements of narrative from a rural Ireland since disappeared.
