Star Lot: A lovely original watercolour on paper painting by Marshall C. Hutson featuring the Shandon Bell Tower of St. Anne's church in Cork. This delicately rendered work has vibrant colours and painterly and gestural brushstrokes creating an atmospheric composition of the Cork street. Hutson has excellent auction history, with a similar watercolour selling at Adams for €1000. Housed in a wooden frame and signed bottom right. Contains sticker for Richie Hendricks Gallery, Dublin on verso.
Primarily a painter and sculptor working in wood and stone, Marshall C. Hutson also promoted a wide range of artistic disciplines both in his own practice and his teaching. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Hibernian Academy (R.H.A.) for over fifty years between the 1930s and 1980s, and in 1958 he was elected Associate of the R.H.A. Hutson also exhibited at the Royal Academy, London.
