Star Lot: A beautiful Elizabeth Brophy (Australian / Irish, b.1926 - d.2020) oil on canvas painting titled 'Flower Study'. Features an impressionistic still life study of purple flowers in a vase. Signed 'Brophy' to verso along with title. Housed in a gilt frame. Brophy's work is extremely popular at auction with her figurative paintings fetching thousands at notable auctions such as Whytes. This painting appears to be one her studio pieces and would be a wonderful chance to own a Brophy work.

Elizabeth Brophy was an impressionistic painter and became both a leader within this field and one of the fastest selling artists in Ireland. She was born in Goulburn, Australia and went on to study art at the East Sydney Technical College. In 1971 she was presented with the P & O Ship Company Art Award which allowed her to travel to Europe, it was at this time she first visited Ireland and then went on to live and paint in Portugal for 13 years. In 1993 the artist returned to Ireland and settled in Tinahealy, Co. Wicklow.
Brophy has exhibited at the Oriel Gallery (1995), the Eight Bells Gallery, Surfers Paradise (1976-1979), Dimensions (1985-1986), the Altelier E.C Colares, Portugal (1988-1989) and in the Sheridan Gallery, Brisbane (1983-1984 and 1990).
