Set of genuine Antonio Francione, original watercolours, inspired by frescoes at Pompeii. Italian school late nineteenth early twentieth century. Some slight water damage. Truly wonderful piece with delicate artistry and fine detailing.
Framed with the classic Pompeiian red and yellow, these original watercolors by Francione is painted with gouache over graphite on hand-made paper. It features Putti (cupids) and is just a small section reproduced from the original frieze, which is located in the dining room in the House of the Vettii at Pompeii.You can still see the original pencil guidelines, made by the artist, whose original signature can be found in the bottom right hand corner.
