Star Lot : A striking acrylic on board painting of the Madonna and child dating to 1957. Naive style, limited palette and use of thick outline is very much in the CoBRA style of the mid century with brush strokes also reminiscent of Jean Basquiat's and Jean Dubuffet's paintings of the later neo expressionist 'art brut' movement. Limited palette of pink, black, blue and white adds to its graphic, street art feel. Initialed I.S. and dated bottom left. Clearly by the same hand as lot 346 from the 10/08/23.
