Star Lot: A wonderfully vibrant original oil on canvas board painting titled "Portrane" by the Irish artist Norman Teeling, dating to 2018. Features an impressionistic landscape study of the titular seaside village, rendered in thick impasto brushstrokes creating a dynamic composition. Highly saturated tones of vivid greens, blues and oranges contrast with each other, creating a visually stimulating scene, filled with light, life, expression and movement. Signed bottom right and housed in a cool grey toned frame. Teeling has a very strong auction history with his larger works fetching over €3000 at Whyte's. Born in 1944 in Dublin, Norman Teeling is known as a leader in Irish impressionist painting, praised for his plein air style. He attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin under Maurice MacGonigal PPRHA and John Kelly RHA, after which he taught fine art for a number of years. Working in oils and sometimes watercolours, his subjects include still life interiors, portraits, genre scenes and history painting. He was commissioned to produce ten paintings for the General Post Office in Dublin to depict the events surrounding the 1916 Easter Rising, which presently remain on display. Teeling has exhibited throughout the UK and Ireland including at The Oriel Gallery in Dublin and The Barbara Stanley Gallery in London.
