A truly stunning original watercolour on paper painting of the Shakhi Zinda Necropolis in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Bought by the original owner on the site in 1974, it features an softly rendered image of the scene, with the tell tale bright blue elements of the central temple, typical of Timurid architecture, contrasts nicely with the sepia tones of the landscape. The Shakhi Zinda is the burial place of royal persons and nobles dating from the 11th to the 19th centuries. Signed on verso.
