Super Star Lot : A magnificent antique Italian silver 889/1000 sculpture of the Dancing Faun of Satyr with an Italian Papal state 1815-1863 silver hallmark. This is a very rare piece and would have been made just after the discovery of Dancing Faun of Satyr in the excavation of Pompeii in 1830 . The statue depicts a nude male figure with a bushy beard and unruly hair, standing on his toes and twisting his torso with a tail. Weighing 419.45 grams. This is an amazing piece can't see any period silver examples of this statue so probably a one off made by the Church or a very wealthy Italian in the early- mid 19th century. Museum quality. There is a fabulous video of this lot on our social media Chanels. Facebook, Instagram and tic tok under South Dublin Auction.
