Star Lot: An original antique 19th century hand coloured plate etching on paper titled "La Maison de la Belle Gabrielle" by the artist Lucien Gautier (b.1850 - d.1925). Features the titular location intensely rendered with lovely crosshatch detailing creating areas of light and shade. Hand signed in pencil bottom right and housed in a smart wooden frame.
MM: 34 x 27 cm in frame

Lucien Gautier was an etcher and designer born in Aix-en-Provence. He studied art under Marius Reynaud, followed by studies in Paris with Léon Gaucherel. He worked as a journeyman etcher in Paris reproducing the work of Corot and others. In 1875 Lucien began producing original work that was highly praised, earning him medals and awards. He is best known for his etchings of Paris and other French cities, and also created views of London, Rome, and Venice. His work is widely held by French institutions and in numerous private collections. There Is a video of this lot on Facebook, instagram and tic Tok under South Dublin Auction.
